Whenever people update to the they find a lot to appreciate. Unfortunately, big updates can also bring with them new problems, and some of the most common are audio related. Those issues can leave people unable to play videos, use certain apps, or hear anything at all from their speakers. That’s not fun, especially when learning your way around the OS’ new features, so let’s do some troubleshooting. Here are the ways you can fix Windows 10 audio issues to remove the dreaded sound of silence. Check your output deviceIf you don’t have any sound at all, it could be something as simple as Windows trying to output sound to an old device, like some headphones you forgot are plugged in, or a Bluetooth speaker that’s just not turned on right now.
To make sure Windows is trying to send sound to the right device, you need to check your output.Step 1: Click the small up arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, next to the clock and calendar.Step 2: Right-click the small speaker icon, and select Open Sound Settings.Step 3: In the settings menu, look to the top-entry that reads, Choose your output device. Use the drop-down menu to make sure that your correct device is selected, whether that’s your speakers or a connected set of headphones. While you’re there, double check that the volume isn’t at zero either. Update your sound card driversOne of the most common sources of sound problems is poor communication between Windows 10 and your sound card or chip of choice.
This often leads to your sound failing to work at all. Fortunately, there are ways to make Windows 10 and your sound hardware compatible. All you need to do is for the job.Step 1: Open the Start menu and search for Device Manager. Click the relevant result.Step 2: Inside the Device Manager you will see a list of icon options.
Choose Sound, video and game controllers. If you have a sound card, it will show up there.Step 3: Open the sound card by double-clicking it, then go to the Driver tab, and look for the option to Update Driver. This will start an automatic Windows search to find driver updates and download them.Step 4: After the update is finished, restart and see if your audio now works. Here are a couple of additional points to consider. Windows will not always find the right audio drivers on its own. If the search does not work, consider visiting your sound card manufacturer’s website and looking up the sound card to find a manual method to download any applicable updates.

Your driver may just need a kick in the bytes. If updating it doesn’t work, then open your Device Manager, find your sound card again, and right-click on the icon. Select Uninstall. This will remove your driver, but don’t panic. Restart your computer, and Windows will try to reinstall the driver. Allow it to do so, and you may find that your sound is back on.Use a generic high definition audio device driverIf working on your sound card software has no effect, you should try switching to the generic audio driver that Windows 10 offers. This can often circumvent compatibility issues and restore sound capabilities to Windows activities.Step 1: Open the Device Manager again and find your audio driver as if you were updating it.Step 2: Right-click the driver and choose Update driver.Step 3: This time though, instead of letting Windows search for it automatically, select Browse my computer for driver software.Step 4: Then select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
This will bring up a list which will include High Definition Audio Device. This is the generic Windows 10 driver. Select and install it, to see if this restores your sound. Fixing Cortana and microphone problemsWindows 10’s built-in vocal assistant, Cortana, can be given all sorts of commands through voice alone. However, that’s no good if your audio isn’t working properly. If Cortana isn’t responding to you the way you hoped, you may have a problem with your microphone — or lack thereof.First, make sure that your computer has a mic so Cortana can hear you.
A microphone is a standard feature for many of today’s laptops and desktops, but it is not guaranteed. Without a built-in mic, you’ll need to use your microphone jack and an external device instead. These are with built-in microphones you can buy right now.If you do have a microphone, let’s double check that your Cortana settings are correct.Step 1: Open Cortana by clicking in your Windows search bar and then select the settings cog icon in the bottom left-hand corner.Step 2: This will give you a number of toggle options to control what the voice assistant can do. Make sure that the option for Cortana to listen for Hey Cortana commands is turned on.
Realtek HD Audio Driver is the most commonly used sound drivers for managing the sound settings for Windows system. Realtek High Definition Audio Manager comes packed along with Realtek Audio driver. This basically is the most commonly used sound driver that is loaded with incredible features and supports a six-channel Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) with 16.20.24-bit Pulse Code Modulation in channel audio of 5.1.Fundamentally, the sound driver eases the sound control play on the windows desktop and is known to offer a high-quality sound to your system through the audio card. It is tagged with your audio device to enhance the sound experience.
Recently, Window users have reported about the difficulty in accessing the sound driver. The users have also had the icon being lost or gone astray from the taskbar, system tray, and notification section. The issue might have probably triggered either after the Windows update or due to change in audio card driver. In this article, we discuss how to download and reinstall Realtek HD Audio Manager. This post also includes suggestions for the following issues:.
Realtek HD Audio Manager icon missing. Realtek HD Audio Manager missing. Realtek HD Audio Manager not opening. You may want to create a system restore point before you begin. Download & Reinstall Realtek HD Audio ManagerBefore downloading the new drivers, uninstall all the current drivers. If in spite of reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio, if you still find the component missing or if you find difficulty opening it, follow these suggestions.
Hey,after updating the realtek drivers via the MSI Live Update app, my Realtek HD Audio Manager went missing. So I uninstalled the drivers using windows control panel, downloaded the newest drivers manually from the MSI Page and reeinstalled them. I did this two times, each of them with a fresh download of the drivers but the HD Audio Manager stays lost. Windows Control Panel shows that the audio drivers are installed. Is anyone familiar with this issue or has an advice yet?MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon + Ryzen 5 1600x. I would say the installation process is rather unsuspicous: When clicking the.exe it's extracting the files first, then the installation starts.
The extracting takes quite a while (not too long, just compared to the installation itself), the installation afterwards is pretty fast. After the installation is finished it asks me to reboot my system what I accept by clicking the respective button. After the reboot the Realtek drivers would show up under the installed programs, but the HD Audio Manager shows neither in control panel under 'Hardware and Sound', nor does it show a tray icon. Manually starting the Audio Manager, as suggested by Nidhoggr, fails as well.So the only thing might be that the installation is pretty fast, but since I don't know how long it should take normally, I can't tell if there is anything wrong with it. But there are no error messages showing up or anything like this during or after the installation.

I always disable all my firewalls's functions when installing drivers, so i already did it. Another thing i tried in the meantime is the system recovery: When I reset my windows to a restore point before the driver installation the Audio Manager is working fine, but when I try to update it the Audio Manager gets lost again.Do you think a complete reinstall of Windows could help nontheless?I also contacted the MSI support on that topic, he suggested a reinstall of Windows as well and if that doesn't work RMAing the board. But I wonder if it can be a hardware issue since the Audio Manager is working again after restoring the system and just the update keeps screwing it.
Well I thought that I would have uninstalled nahimic, but there was still a programm called 'Nahimic VR' left when searching for nahimic in control panel. I uninstalled it, uninstalled the realtek drivers and installed them again. But it's still not working.
I tried both drivers, the one frome the MSI Website as well as drivers that I downloaded directly from realtek. There is just one change I believe I noticed: A few posts ago I reported about the Windows Problem Reporting opening for a split second in the task-manager when trying to start the Audio Manager manually using its.exe. Now when doing so the Problem Reporting opens for a few seconds and so does the Audio Manager. But again, only in task manager and both shut down after a few seconds.I will try to reinstall Windows now. I hope this helps, I really don't want to have to RMA my board since that would be really time-consuming:-/.
Hi everyone,I have the same issue as described here. I tried all the steps that everyone mentioned here and in other forums. I don't really want to reinstall windows, there has to be a solution without having to do that.My main problem is that my microphone seems to be stuck in a very low volume. It's a microphone connected via mini jack 3.5, the headsets are hyper X cloud. I think that I'll have to purchase a mini jack to usb sound card / adapter but I'd prefer to solve the problem. Also there is like a constant noise / buzzing on the microphone because on the teamspeak for instance it shows as constantly speaking even if I am not.

I had this problem as well and not only did I try the various ideas/methods of fixing it mentioned here (ignoring the re-installation of windows) but also some I found on other sites. Nothing worked until I decided to say 'screw it' and tried the reinstalling of windows.
While tedious I wish i had just done so from the beginning as it would have saved me a lot of time. Now I am by no means positive but I have an idea as to what could have caused this issue to occur in the first place. After installing the operating system the first time I had installed applications via the disks which came with my computer parts. My Mobo and GPU are both MSI and I'm not sure which of the two disks I installed it from but I installed Nahimic 2 (an older version) from the disk and installed the most recent Realtek HD Audio Driver/Manger via MSI Live Update 6. After reinstalling the operating system I installed Realtek Drivers from MSI's website and Nahimic 2 from it's website, and well.
It works just fine now. You are right at this time but.Nahimic is a sound effects program strongly linked to the Realtek HD audio drivers. So, if you update drivers, you must previously unisntall Nahimic then, at the end of the update, reinstall it: else, Nahimic should block drivers update, work badly (cracking sounds) or, in the worse case, generate BSOD. Furthermore, Nahimic uninstaller is not clean: traces can remain with potential impact on the pc sound/record. To fully remove Nahimic:- Run its uninstaller- Open registry, search for 'Nahimic' and suppress all- RestartIt will be laborious to do that each times!Even doing that, you are not certain that all will works properly: often Nahimic update is published a long time after the Realtek HD audio drivers.
In others words, taking the last versions published on the MSI site does not insure you against their incompatibility! To finish, Nahimic is not essential. If you have not installed it and want to configure sound/record, use 'Realtek HD Audio settings' application:C:Program FilesRealtekAudioHDARtkNGUI64.exe. Especially since I had tried to do that to fix the problem in the first windows installation however there were some entries which I couldn't delete (it just gave me an error when attempting to). Hopefully that doesn't occur again because I want to just completely remove Nahimic and not use it anymore. At first I thought I wanted Nahimic, particularly for the Microphone options but after messing with them I decided they just make worse so now I'm not even using any of Nahimic's features.Edit: What about 'Nahimic VR' which came with the Realtek Drivers on MSI's website?Edit2: I decided to just uninstalled Nahimic VR and Realtek as well, remove anything Nahimic related from registry and now I am reinstalling Realtek (+ Nahimic VR since it automatically installs with it) from MSI's downloads. I assume it will work just fine but hopefully with future updates it will not break again.
